Thank you Austin!
Totally exhausting, but a lot of fun. So thank you to everyone who came to one of the screenings. The film seems to be picking up really good buzz and I know it’s a good sign when people come up to me a day or two after they saw the film and start acting out scenes and quoting lines from it.
It’s not “news” per se, but the best parts of my trip actually happened after the film part ended. On Saturday night, I wound up at a benefit Joe Ely was having for a photography book called Signs he was involved in. Good music and good food.
Then Sunday afternoon, the best part of my trip to Austin was a gumbo party at Adam Ahrens’ house… about a dozen people, including Tish Hinojosa, JT Van Zandt, and 3 Italians guitarists/singers I never quite got the names of sitting around the picnic table in the yard passing the guitars around and trading songs. Highlights included Tish, JT, and Adam harmonizing on a tender version of Freddy Fender’s Before the Next Teardrop Falls, JT’s wonderfully open and straightforward take on Ira Hayes, and an all Italian version of Tecumseh Valley done by, well, the Italians!
