Park City Day 3
So it’s Monday night here, my third full day here in Park City… The weekend here was pretty crazy seeming….just tons of people all over the place. Regulars were all saying that the turnout was light—that there just wasn’t the kind of crowds from previous years—but for my first experience here, between the fur coats, the mini-skirts, the anti-fur protesters, the camera crews, the giggling girls pointing up to celebrities I didn’t recognize on the balconies, it all seemed like something out of—I dunno—a movie or something.
There is a whole mardi gras vibe to it that makes me think of 6th street in Austin but full of adults. Luckily, it’s cold enough that the vomit freezes on the street. You may slip on it, but at least it won’t stick to your shoes.
The best I can describe the business side here is that it seems a lot like high school…a lot of people trying to sit at the popular lunch table and they all text message…sorry, I guess that should be txt. I was good enough at high school that watching all the jockeying to get to the right party, meet the right people just kind of makes me smile a bit.
By tonight, it seemed the town had cleared out a bit—-my film premieres tomorrow, so of course it’s a little scary to think there will be less viewers, but at the same time, I think that maybe that might not be a bad thing… less about the scene and hopefully more about the films. Given the kind of film I’ve made—that might be exactly right for me.
Talk to you later… Zach
